The restaurant was full when we entered, but the sign said "seat yourself.". While we waited, others came in & stood, also waiting. I asked if they started a list when there were people waiting, so they did. We were a group of 5, & while we waited for our 5th chair, a 6-person table opened up, so we moved. The table was finally cleaned, & we ordered. We felt like an afterthought the whole time. People who arrived well after us got their food first, we had to ask several times for silverware, & though there were several servers & not so many tables (there were empties), service was not speedy. I ordered a piña colada, & my daughters each ordered virgin coladas (they are clearly well below 21). When the waitress brought the last two, she said she thought they were virgin drinks. She thought?!? We tasted them. One was definitely non-alcoholic; one was not, & I asked her to ask the bartender. It had alcohol. It's hard to forgive this. The food was okay; not terrible, not great. My grouper sandwich was dry, but my kids liked the lobster mac 'n cheese. My husband's fried shrimp & steamed clams were fine; nothing special. We had debated going back to Tony's...& we wish we had. When I clarified that the non-alcoholic drinks were the same price as the alcoholic, the waitress took $10 off the bill because she knew we were unhappy & because we'd waited so long. That was nice, but we still wouldn't go back.

Was in town over the weekend for an event, our group liked this place so much we went 4 times over the three days we were in town. Twice just to drink and twice to drink and eat. The food we ordered was delicious. We all got the BBQ rum pork the first time around which was FANTASTIC. Best pulled pork I've had in a while. We also all sampled the clam chowder. We all got a bowl of it the second time around with our meals. The burger was pretty good and cooked, but the bacon was a little undercooked for my taste. The drinks were good, if a little pricey IMO. Certainly not the cheapest around town but were we did get the best deal for alcohol the service was horrendous. The folks here were nice and handled unexpectedly large crowds well. They eve reopened the bar for us after closing when they discovered we had returned after receiving crappy service at another location on dock street. Overall, I would recommend Steamers to anybody I know headed to Cedar Key as out of all the restaurants we sampled it was our favorite.

The saddest blackened Mahi Mahi ( if it was even Mahi) I have ever seen: thin, dry, and over seasoned. Crab cake was over cooked flavorless. I love Cedar Key, but will not be going back there for food, only drinks.

Excellent clam chowder and even better crab bisque. Fried grouper and fried shrimp are very tasty. Clams casino were delightful, too. While the steamed clams were flavorful, there were quite a few gritty ones. That did not stop us from eating here 4 times in five days!

This place is very good if you want a drink, especially if you're a fan of Swamphead. The food? Steer clear. Constantly under new ownership, the food of Steamer's varies from good to downright terrible as it switches hands. As of now, the food is awful, albeit the beachy, seaside atmosphere. Like most places in Cedar Key, the prices are extremely inflated (there are only a handful of restaurants and people in Cedar Key and over half of restaurant income is from tourists and guest divers/boaters), but what sets Steamers apart from other restaurants in its vicinity is that you barely get any food for that tremendous price. Expect dinners to be fifteen dollars and above for a mediocre, small meal. I had lunch and dinner at this place and both were disappointing - I ordered the fish dip as an appetizer (eight dollars) and it was a single ice cream cone scoop of dip and six still-wrapped crackers. The dip looked and tasted as if it was scooped out of a grocery store premade fish dip AND the crackers were the 25 cent variety in wrappers. I paid eight dollars for something that tasted and seemed valued at two dollars at MOST. Okay, bad start, but I wasn't going to let the place down. I ordered a bowl of crab bisque, which tasted relatively good, but was very oily and had rubbery, partially cooked crab meat and large, sandy bits of shell. Not good for someone texture reliant. I ordered the lobster salad sandwich, which was eleven dollars for a small hoagie roll of premade lobster salad and a small side of fries. The fries? Floppy and greasy. The roll? Hard and gross. The lobster salad? I made a huge attempt to drown it in their signature sauces (one of the only good things about this eatery besides the beer) but the dry, too-sugary taste couldn't be escaped. I came back a day or two later for dinner, hoping it was just a bad day, but it wasn't. It seemed regular. I ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. Rubbery and funky tasting. Then I asked for their specialty plate (I believe it is blue crab and portabella mushrooms stuffed in a 'pastry') but they claimed they were out of mushrooms despite me and others just ordering stuffed mushrooms. Oh well. I went with the fifteen dollar seafood pasta. It tasted like a reheated Michelina meal. So my advice? Don't go to Steamer's for food, though their desserts and beer are nice. The atmosphere is nice, but usually they'll have a band playing and you won't be able to hear anything. I couldn't speak or hear my mother who was sitting beside me because someone was crooning Jimmy Buffet covers, both visits. Sigh. I'd advise you to eat at the small, colorful burger shack across the street from Steamer's, or just pack your lunch. I won't be visiting here again unless I want to get drunk to Cheeseburger In Paradise, which won't be anytime soon.

Great clams diablo, and decent crab chowder. Reasonably priced and the atmosphere was acceptable for a Tuesday night.

Decent seafood and good drinks, with a lovely view on the water. Service is highly variable and sometimes unprofessional. Mainly I go there for a drink and the water in the afternoon. They also have TVs to watch sports which is a plus during football season. They tend to get a lot of the tourist and day traffic on the dock, but the food in town is better.

Stopped in mid-week and had a good lunch. Service was "laid back" but fast enough for two retirees not in a hurry. Food was decent. Good beer selection.

I can't give this place 5 stars since I didn't eat here, but my girlfriend and I both felt this was our favorite bar at Cedar Key. There weren't any restaurants in Cedar Key that we were impressed with (beside the Clam Chowder at Tony's), so I would pick your location based on the atmosphere and drinks. Steamers had amazing views and great service, and while most place have similar breathe taking views, Steamers felt like the most fun place to enjoy a few drinks.

Awesome food! Plain or creative. Excellent beer selection from area micro brewery Swamphead! LeeAnn made our visit even more enjoyable:-)

OK, we had much better luck here with food than several other reviewers, and were so happy we went back for lunch a second time. We were here at off-times when almost nothing was open--late in the afternoon the day we arrived (aro. 3:15pm) Tuesday 12/18 and the next day aro. 2:30 or so. It seems not much is open in the fall/early winter until late in the week. But Steamers was, and although we had our doubts, we were really happy with how it turned out. 1) beer They serve Swamphead Brewery beers (Gainesville), so we tried the Stumpknocker Pale Ale (hoppy) and the Big Nose IPA (a little maltier, good, but fairly alcoholic). Both were excellent--the kind of styles we like and nothing funky or off about them. I can't tell you how many places we ask "so, what do you have on tap" and they say "Oh, everything" which turns out to mean Bud, Coors, Miller, sometimes Michelob, and something in the lager family. SO this was a pleasant surprise (the local beer place has been closed up tight both times we've visited Cedar Key--now we don't need them). 2) food We asked our waitstaff--and were glad we did. We tried both the crab bisque and the clam chowder. Both were really excellent: chowder had a good cream base, plenty of tender and sizeable clam pieces (you'd expect that on an island where they farm clams!), some but not too much potato, some celery bits. I think the base may have just a tad of mustard somewhere--but very subtle. The crab was full of crab-even a couple pieces you could chew--cream-based again I think (i.e. not just flour and milk or potato thickened). There was a hint of dill in this one. So they really were different--not just the same creamy base w/different shellfish bits. We tried the clam steamer pot--good clams (though these were a little chewier) in a garlic/buttery & white wine broth with a small roll. Good--- bread w/a coarser crumb and more of it to soak up that liquid would make this even better. This town desperately needs a good bakery. We also tried the mahi-mahi fish dinner, grilled, w/hushpuppies and steamed veggies. The fish was perfect--really fresh, grilled very well--moist but w/nice grilled texture and crisp in spots. The hushpuppies tasted home-made to me--smaller and oval like when you roll them. I thought they were really good--though the centers might have verged on being underdone. Veg was ok--quite edible but nothing special. The following day we did the soups again, and split a po' boy w/oysters and shrimp--both nicely fried w/different breading. The oysters were almost in a tempura-like texture (though they were small oysters) and the shrimp a little more traditional but good-sized. Nice tasty sauce (not quite remoulade, but in that family) lightly drizzled and a decent bun (better than a hotdog bun). It came w/tomato/onion/lettuce which we stuck in the sandwich, and fries--nice, w/pepper & salt. 3) Location: we sat outside. It's a sort of narrow bar and you have to fight the grackles (birds) for space, but the staff was great--wiped off the bar both times and kept coming out to check on us, suggested putting up the umbrella--we probably stayed about 1 1/2 hours both times. You have a fabulous view into the Gulf & of the various islands and the huge fishing pier. So long as you don't share, the birds will leave you alone. Overall--we had good food (you might have to be selective), good beer, good service, and avoided the indoor music and big bar feel. Appreciate the very flexible hours.

View was nice, beer was decent (recommend beer sampling to determine what you like before committing to a full glass), food was okay (dessert was kind of pretentious and not fresh - small on this huge plate of drizzled sauce). Live music on Sunday afternoon was enjoyable.
